What is the Fairview Community Center?
The Fairview Community Center is physically the gym of the former Fairview School. When the new elementary school was built, the Fairview Community Center Board was established (1991). It is the last of the county-owned, gym-based community centers in Buncombe County, just outside Asheville, North Carolina. The building is owned by the Buncombe County Board of Education and leased to the not-for-profit Fairview Community Center (FvCC) Board for a nominal fee.
Over the years, many ongoing events and special fundraising events have provided the money to maintain and improve the Community Center. When looking back, many younger people, in the community, have fond memories of programs and festivals that they attended as children, in the FvCC. We try to be available, to meet the community’s ever changing needs, with a clean and safe environment. With such a convenient location and plenty of parking, we are the ideal location for many different types of events.

The Center can be rented for gym-based sports practices and games as well as social functions such as dances, birthday parties, weddings, quincineras, concerts, yard sales, awards ceremonies, political functions, etc. The rule-of-thumb cost is $30/hour. However, there are certain minimum rental periods as well as situation-specific requirements for security. We also offer a discount for recurrent rentals.
There is a stage on one end of the gym as well as a kitchen. There are 25 eight foot plastic folding tables and 150 folding metal chairs included in the rental. Also available at additional rental is a PA system with microphones and ipod/CD player connections, stage lighting, and a basketball scoreboard, as well as special decoration features.

The Fairview Community Center is part of a tobacco, alcohol, and weapons-free zone, per North Carolina laws for educational property.
